Susan has shown great courage in making the transition off the streets.

Because nothing she had experienced in her life had prepared her or given her the skills she needed for a normal life: as a child she was sexually abused by her father – she got pregnant by him at 12; as a teenager and adult her life was a vortex of strip clubs, drugs and abusive relationships.

Once Susan got her new home, only very gradually did she gain enough confidence to leave her apartment, take her dogs to the dog park and begin meeting her neighbours – to become part of a new community.

Now, in her early 40’s she’s making plans: Susan wants to use her love of animals and train to be a dog groomer.
