More than 800 Edmontonians representing 75 companies and organizations took part in spring and summer 2008 small-group discussions about homelessness. Highlights include 62 interviews with the homeless community, 20 meetings with elected and senior officials, 30 facilitated meetings with other groups. Common themes emerged through the interview process:

  • The Housing First concept is a good idea and must be part of the solution.
  • The wrap-around service to newly housed clients is the key to success.
  • Prevention strategies are critical.
  • Public awareness and education are essential.
